Description
The tour to Cerro Tronador leaves from San Carlos de Bariloche, first heading towards Gutiérrez Lake. During this first section of the tour, visitors can see the needles and hillsides of Cerro Catedral, on the far bank of the Lake.

Moving ahead, the tour travels beside Mascardi Lake, passing by the village and then reaching a vista point, a natural balcony overlooking to a multiple-color scenery and the perfect spot for taking pictures. The Tronador Hotel is on the right, surrounded by high peaks and offering an excellent view of nearby mountains. A few kilometers ahead on the way, the bridge over Césares stream is crossed; this is an excellent chance to visit the waterfall of that name. From here, the valley of Superior Manso River begins, and 15 kilometers (9 miles) away, a wooden bridge over Manso River is crossed, passing by the National Gendarmerie Post in order to reach Pampa Linda.

Almost at the end of the way, passing through a shady forest, the Manso River glacier appears in sight; it is commonly known as “Ventisquero Negro”, where an observation point overlooks to the large, grayish blocks formed throughout centuries of avalanches of ice and mud.

The tour ends at a huge rocky amphitheater formed by cliffs on the eastern side of Cerro Tronador. Popularly known as Devil’s Throat, its main attraction are the waterfalls dropping from impressive heights. Then, crossing a bridge over Manso River, the three typical peaks of Cerro Tronador can be seen: the Argentine peak that is 3,554-meter (11,660 ft.) high, the International peak that is 3,554-meter (11,660 ft.) high, and the Chilean peak that is 3,410-meter (11,188 ft.) high. When returning to the main route, Roca Lake and its crystal waters come into sight, and after crossing the bridge over Roca River the tour arrives at a parking lot. From here, visitors continue on foot to Los Alerces waterfall: a 20-meter (65.5 ft.) drop, immersed in a landscape surrounded by alerces (Patagonian Cypress) and covered in moss. Finally, the tour returns to San Carlos de Bariloche.
