There were only two of us who couldn't speak Spanish but English in our group. But the guide always cared about us. Thank you!

La Cantera Hotel
Overall, we really loved this hotel. They were so hospitable and kind, even staying up late so that they could serve us dinner on a day we returned home late. The breakfasts were amazing, the view spectacular! The only down side was the proximity to town, not to far but up a steep hill. They do offer shuttle service to the main street area in the evening, so that helped us tremendously. Overall, great experience and we will return to stay there again.

The owners Jorge & Elizabeth were lovely hosts, really warm and friendly, couldn't do enough for us. They made us feel very welcome, even packing a flask full of hot coffee for our trip on the Big Ice Trek which was greatly appreciated. Great breakkie too.Wouldn't hesitate in recommending them. Big Ice Tour
Brilliant trip even though it rained hard all day and was very windy but the staff were great and made it fun. The scenery was spectacular. You got to warm up afterwards with a whiskey on ice (glacier ice that is) Thoroughly recommend. However tempted, do not wear jeans as a poor ozzie guy got drenched and had very cold legs all day.

Jorge and Elizabeth are very lovely. Friendly, kind and very helpful. The only downside is that the rooms lack a closet or wardrobe for clothes-although there is a kind of rack of hanging clothes.

Terraza Coirones Boutique Hotel
I couldn't believe that they charge for use of internet nor for eggs for breakfast. These are two things that should be part of the tab considering the cost of the hotel.

I think that it is nessisary to remind people when they sign up for the trip that they need to bring their passports with them. Otherwise the trip to Torres del Paine was spectacular. We loved it!

El calafate has no street names. No signs that shows directions to the Hosteleria. It took us too long in the unpaved "streets" till we found the place. And that was with a map :-( We were "kicked out" at 10:00AM sharp. (We were busy fixing reservations of a trip-gone-wrong.) Owner is very friendly, though.

Cauquenes de Nimez Inn
The owner and staff were very eager to ensure we had everything we needed. The only problem was a little reluctance to provide us with a meal when we arrived (which was rather late) After a little persuasion we did manage to get a dish of soup(quite delicious). It would appear they like to have meals ordered which is quite understandable. So perhaps this could be given as an option when bookings are made. (A strange place, and what appeared to be a long way out of centro coming from the airport, and arriving very hungry at 22.00 hours, most people need food on site, and do not need the extra pressure of walking into the centre of town to try and find food). We would gladly have committed to paying for a meal when we arrived, given our late arrival. Perhaps you could discuss this idea with the very lovely owner and his staff, who only wish to do their utmost for visitors. Thank you, Phyl Twigg. P.S. Would certainly recommend this accomodation.
Phyllis Twigg - Adelaide, Australia - Posted: 07/01/2008

Elan Hotel
for a very small town like El Calafate, Hotel Elan is quite far away from the center, impossible to walk from the center, but hotel has a shutle service at busy hours.
S. Altan Yasar - Istanbul, Turkey - Posted: 07/01/2008

El Mirador del Lago Hotel
The Hotel is nicely decorated, confortable and clean. Only remark is that rooms lack enough ventilation and this is particularly important during summer season. Only a single window could be opened and if one is staying at the ground level as we did, it leaves to room open to the street. Aside from this detail, the hotel is a good choice and I would recommend it to others.

Overall, good value for the price. But what made my stay particularly special was the exceptional service provided by the owners (who were truly outstanding) and staff. They were extremely helpful and pleasant to work with. I would recommend the property and return again on this basis alone.

Great place to stay, very helpful staff, very clean and comfortable, highly recommend it. The only drawback is that it is a little farther from the center of town than stated on their website, more than 500 meters, more like 1500 meters in our opinion, but still close enough.

Argentina is a wounderful country and in Calafate you will find some of the BEST: Perito Moreno, the National Park of Glaciar, a step to El Chalten and Torres del Pine. Hosteria Cauquenes de Nimez Inn, was our best place in Argentina. The house and the reception were Excellent and the location just in front of a reserve of birds was superb(cauquenes, flamingos, eagles,...) and not far away from the center.

Clean & quaint with an OK breakfast, albeit not the fastest. Needs new wallpaper and some attention (eg: beds that sag as if they are 40 years old.) and there are no TVs, there is a pool though but I didn't try it.

The prices in Calafate are over all high, so this hotel is fairly cheap, and is good value for the money. It is situated in the center, so therefore it has not any view over the lake. You can´t have both.
