The hotel we were booked in on night 1 (Hotel Continental) had black mold all over the bathroom walls and the bedding smelled musty. Black mold can make people very sick. I was very disapointed that we were not dropped off at our lodging in Cusco at the end of the tour. We were dropped off at night in the pouring rain in the Plaza des armas in Cusco. Every other tour that I went on during my 2 weeks in Peru picked up AND dropped off at our hotel.

Description

The 2-day Inca Trail tour includes the following itinerary:

Day 1: Passengers are picked up at their hotels and transferred to Ollantaytambo town. There, we board a train heading for kilometer 104 (mile 64), 2,250 meters above sea level (7,381 FASL), the starting point of a 6-hour trek along the Inca Trail. During the trek, it is possible to visit the Chachabamba archeological sites at 2,270 meters above sea level (7,450 FASL). Later, we reach the most important archeological site in Wiñayhuayna, which is the last urban center before arriving at Machu Picchu. Finally, we cross the Inti Punku (Door of the Sun) ruins, located 2,780 meters above sea level (9,120 FASL). Then, we arrive at Machu Picchu and finally take a transfer to Aguas Calientes, where we spend the night at a hotel.

Day 2: The activity starts at 6 a.m., when visitors are transferred to the ruins of Machu Picchu, where we get a brief review of the place. Later, we enjoy some time at leisure until the agreed meeting time to take the train back to Cusco.
