How can you get there? from Trelew take Ruta Provincial 25 (to Rawson) and drive 7 kilometers. On the right, there is a junction with Ruta Provincial 1 (non-paved road) that leads to the colony. It is 107 kilometers from Trelew and 182 kilometers from Puerto Madryn.

During the trip, it is possible to see the fauna of the area: guanacos, rheas, martinetas, piches, Patagonian hares and grey foxes. Every now and then in the middle of the dessert hills, the intense blue of the sea comes into sight.
Punta Tombo is the largest colony of Magallenic penguins on the Patagonian continental coast. It is estimated that half a million penguins arrive here every year to mate and give birth. If you drive, be careful when approaching the control post, since some penguins have their caves quite close and cross the roads very often (and slowly). In the control area, there is a small restaurant with basic meals and groceries. Public bathrooms are not well maintained.
Once you arrive at the parking space, there are marked trails where you can walk without bothering the penguins; but they will always get close and along the way. In Punta Tombo the contact with penguins is direct and you will not believe how friendly they are, as long as they are not bothered. There are also other species such as cormorants, seagulls, skuas, giant petrels and oyster birds

Gaiman, pop. 5,000, is a typical town of Welsh immigrants who settled here in 1868. Walking along its quiet streets you can go by a dozen of chapels, border the coast of Río Chubut that crosses town from West to East and, of course, enjoy a delicious Welsh Tea (bread, butter, homemade sweets, cakes and exquisite scons). Do not miss the typical black cake or Welsh cake.
