Sao Paulo Travel Information

Sao Paulo

  • Sao Paulo is the world's second largest city and Latin America's largest business district. Its population of 10 million people reaches 16 million if you consider greater Sao Paulo. The city is located 429 kmts from Rio de Janeiro and 36 kmts from the ocean (see map)
  • Sao Paulo combines a modern skyline with state-of-the-art buildings and large parks, such as Ibirapuera and Trianon on Paulista Ave (see photos)
  • Sao Paulo's main attractions include Teatro Municipal, Catedral sa Sé, Praça da República, Patio do Colégio, Museo da Cidade, Viaduto do Chá, the Pinacoteca and the Museo de Arte Sagrado
  • Sao Paulo is divided into districts which are really smaller cities with complete infrastructure: Bairro da Liberdade hosts the Japanese community, Bela Vista the Italian community and Bom Retiro the Corean and Jewish communities. Jardins is one of the most exclusive areas in Sao Paulo, many good hotels are located here (see map)

Sao Paulo Hotels & Apart Hotels

  • Sao Paulo hotels include world-class accommodations for leisure and business. International and local hotel chains operate here with a wide range of alternatives (see prices)
  • We recommend business travelers looking for Sao Paulo hotels to stay close to the workplace as to minimize conmuting. Traffic is very bad and even short distances take a long time.
  • Favorite areas for business hotels include Vila Mariana, Jardins, Pinheiros, Bela Vista, and Consolação. They offer a good combination of infrastructure, safety, walking areas and night life.
  • There are many hotels located around Praça da República, Sao Paulo´s main commercial district

    Sao Paulo Tours & Attractions

  • Sao Paulo tours focus on discovering the city and its rich ethnic diversity. The offering includes restaurants, monuments, cultural spaces, and natural parks.
  • Ibirapuera is located in the heart of the city. The park comprises a large area of forest, lakes and streets suitable for walking, biking or just relaxing (see photos) The buildings of Bienal, Planetario and the Obelisk are located within the premises.
  • Sao Paulo tours include the Ipiranga Museum -independence started here-, Immigrant Museum, Museum of Sacred Art and Museum of Modern Art
  • Sao Paulo is renown for its gastronomy: over 10.000 restaurants offer superb local, international and ethnic food.
  • Night life in another landmark of Sao Paulo. Locals like to visit different bars or discos each day of the week, so you will always be welcome to join in.
  • Sao Paulo shopping alternatives include Iguatemi, Morumbi and El Dorado among others

Sao Paulo Car Rental, Airport Transfer & Transportation

  • Car rental in Sao Paulo is not recommended unless you plan to travel outside the city or to spend time in Guarujá (see travel packages). All international car rentals have offices at the airport and downtown.
  • Cumbica international airport is located in Guarulhos, some 25 kmts outside Sao Paulo. The domestic airport - Congonhas - is conveniently located in the southern suburbs of the city.
  • There are airport transfer services and taxis operating on both airports.
  • The best option to get around Sao Paulo is by taxi. Taxi services are very reliable and you will find them waiting outside most hotels, restaurants and bars. There are 2 kinds: yellow cabs provide standard rates and services (e.g. no air conditioning) while black cabs are premium.

    Tourist Information in Sao Paulo

  • Tourist information on Sao Paulo can be found in Praça da República, Shopping Iguatemi and Parque Ibirapuera. In Guarulhos International Airport there are tourist desks open daily from 7am to 10pm.
  • We recommend precaution when walking in Sao Paulo. Given its size, the city is safe (see customer experience), but business travelers are often targeted for notebooks and hand bags while walking out of their offices.
