About Torres del Paine

Torres del Paine National Park is located in southern Chile and includes an impressive natural area of glaciers, mountains, rivers and native forest. The park is 150 Km from Puerto Natales and 400 Km from Punta Arenas (see map).

There are 3 ways to get to Torres del Paine: fly from Santiago to Punta Arenas, take a short cruise from Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas or take the bus/drive from El Calafate in Argentina. There are buses connecting Punta Arenas, Puerto Natales and Torres del Paine.

Thousands of international visitors come to the Park every year to hike or trek. Trails are grouped into circuits and take up to 12 days to complete, depending on your fitness, your allotted time and the changing local weather.

Torres del Paine park has 3 entrances: Sarmiento (main), Laguna Amarga and Laguna Verde. They are located 114 Km from Puerto Natales. The Park is administered by COMAF and its Administration building is located in Rio Serrano, on the western shore of Lago del Toro and 33 km from the Park´s entrances.

Park rangers are located in Porteria Lago Sarmiento, Porteria Laguna Amarga, Porteria Laguna Azul, Guardería Lago Grey and Guardería Laguna Verde. Camping grounds are located at Lago Pehoe, Rio Serrano and Laguna Azul (see map).

Torres del Paine Hotels, Hostels & Apart Hotels

Torres del Paine hotels are scattered through the park. Hostería Las Torres is located near the Laguna Amarga entrance. Hosteria Pehoe is located on the eastern shore of Lago Pehoe. Rio Serrano is on the road to the Administration building. Hosteria Lago Grey is close to Refugio Pingo, on the southern tip of Lago Grey. Other hotels in Torres del Paine are located in the Pudeto area.

Most Torres del Paine hotels have few rooms, good facilities and high rates. Staff not always speaks English but you will find lots of fellow travelers to help you out with Spanish (see customer reviews)

Torres del Paine Tours & Attractions

Tours in Torres del Paine are limited to trekking & hiking. Experience is recommended to undertake the Circuits as routes and plans change often due to bad weather. The most popular circuits in Torres del Paine park are:

W Circuit: takes 4 days and includes the Park´s highlights: Torres, Cuernos del Paine and Glacier Lake.

Lake Nordenskljöld and Grey Glacier: takes 5 days and goes from Refugio Las Torres along the base of El Paine massif to the Lake Nordenskljöld trail, Refugio Pehoe then north to Gray Glacier

Torres del Paine 7 day circuit: departs from Refugio Las Torres and goes to Refugio Dickinson, Los Perros Glacier, John Garner pass, Grey Glacier, Refugio Pehoe, Frances Glacier, Campamento Britanico, Refugio Los Cuernos and Refugio Las Torres.

Torres del Paine Car Rental, Airport Transfer & Transportation

Car rental in Torres del Paine can be arranged only thru companies based in Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas. Prices are very high compared to other destinations and car rentals charge extra for pick-up/drop off in different locations.

There are transportation and packages available to visit Torres del Paine from El Calafate in Argentina and vice-versa.

Tourist Information on Torres del Paine

The weather in Torres del Paine park is unstable. You can get snow, rain and sunshine on the same day. Make sure you take good gear for camping and trekking.

There are strong winds and temperatures in summer are between 24 ºC max and 2ºC min, with 18 hours of daylight.
